Southwest Valley wins in four over East Union

 AFTON — In their lone match for the week, the Southwest Valley Timberwolves volleyball team scored a 3-1 road win against Pride of Iowa opponent East Union.

The first two games were split as Southwest Valley won game one 25-19, but lost game two 25-23.

The Timberwolves won games three and four each by a score of 25-15.

Southwest Valley finished the match with 38 kills. They had 11 kills in the first and third game, as well as nine in the fourth and seven in the second.

Marie Palmer once again had another big night for the Timberwolves, recording 15 kills out of 35 attack attempts.

Kelsie Kinman had six kills, while Marissa Drake recorded five and Mikayla Dolch finished with three.

Defensively, three Timberwolves had double-digit digs. Sierra Sleep led the team with 17 digs, while Dolch had 12 and Casaundra Currin finished with 11.

Currin also had 13 assists, which was second behind Caitlyn Damewood, who had 19.

Southwest Valley will kick off their week Tuesday night with a home varsity match versus Bedford. 

This will be the second time the two teams meet this season. 

The last meeting took place at the Shenandoah Tournament Sept. 14, which Bedford won, 2-1.

Thursday night will feature a trio of opponents, including Clarinda, Mount Ayr and Treynor.

This will be the last match before the Pride of Iowa tournament kicks off next week.
