Sports Calendar: June 5

The weekend is finally here. We have some rain chance for Friday, but they're not quite as high as they were yesterday.

Day two of the state tennis tournament continues in Ankeny this morning. Red Oak will have semifinalists in both singles and doubles. Kate Walker will be competing in the 1A singles semifinals as she takes on Cedar Rapids Xavier's Allison Jasper. The other semifinal features Denison-Schleswig's Mara Piroscoveanu against Grinnell's Lily Hamilton.

In 1A doubles, Grace Blomstedt and Micayla Taylor will face Claire and Jeanne Bouchard of Cedar Rapids Xavier in the semifinals. The other semifinal features Olivia Fain and Lauren McManus of Waterloo Columbus against Chelsea Poesche and Kayla Rasche of Waverly-Shell Rock.

The championship semifinals start at 10 a.m. at the Ankeny Tennis Center.

In Corner Conference action, Stanton goes on the road to play Fremont-Mills. The softball team plays first at 5:30 p.m., while baseball will play at 7:30 p.m.

Essex meanwhile hits the road to play Sidney. The action kicks off at 6 p.m. with the softball game.

Southwest Valley will be home Friday night as they host I-35. The JV/varsity doubleheader begins at 6 p.m.

Finally, Griswold will be home to face Riverside. The JV will start first at 6 p.m.
