RO girls bowling season rolls to end

The Red Oak girls bowling team competed in Shenandoah at the state qualifying meet on Monday, Feb. 14, along with Clarinda, Lenox, Mount Ayr, and Shenandoah, finishing as a team in fifth place.

Team results: 1- Clarinda 2,355; 2- Shenandoah 2,270; 3- Lenox 1,864; 4- Mount Ayr 1,756; 5- Red Oak 1,557.

The top team as well as the top four total scores advanced to the state meet, eliminating any Tiger girls as Ashley Wilkins finished in sixth place, just 16 pins short of a ticket to state.

“The girls ended the season today,” Red Oak head bowling coach Michael Nordeen said. “But they fought har all season and you could definitely see the improvement in all the girls.”

Red Oak series: Ashley Wilkins 446; Marissa Williams 366; Kiley Riibe 353; Claire Eitzen 293; Lana Johnson 291; Grace Wagaman 228.

The Baker game total was 535 for the Tigers.

Harlan

Red Oak boys bowling sent the three seniors off with a victory over Harlan, 2,336-2.247 on senior night, Monday, Feb. 7.

The boys had a 15-pin lead after the individual games, and won four out of five Baker games, taking the 89-pin win with an 820 Baker total.

Harlan’s Braydon Ernst finished with the high game of 188. Red Oak’s Jon Piper bowled the high series of 345 and led the Tigers with a high game of 180.

Red Oak series: Kyle Berkey 314; Hunter Jarrett 313; Maddex McCunn 307; Weston Gettler 237; Luke Sperling 198.

Red Oak bowling recognized the three seniors: Jon Piper, Kyle Berkey, and Luke Sperling. 

Red Oak girls fell 2,192-1,731 to the Cyclones, with the Baker total of 562 for the Tigers.

“The girls continue to grow every week,” Red Oak head bowling coach Michael Nordeen said. “The positive from tonight was that we had a full lineup. The girls are working on more consistency and will continue to get better.”The high score was bowled by Harlan’s Anna Grote and high series of 314 was bowled by Harlan’s Sydney O’Neill. For Red Oak, Kiley Riibe had the high score of 158 and Ashley Wilkins led the team with the high series of 277.

Red Oak series: Riibe 255; Marissa Williams 229; Claire Eitzen 206; Grace Wagaman 202; Lana Johnson 191.

Tiger JV boys fell 2,069-1,899. The Baker total was 609.

Red Oak series: Jonah Wemhoff 314; Jakson Biggerstaff 254; Kadyn Riibe 244; Bennett Johnson 241; Conor Britten 237; Griffin Eubank 192.

H-10 Tournament

The Tigers competed in the Hawkeye 10 meet on Friday, Feb. 11, at the Thunderbowl. The boys team finished seventh and the girls finished ninth.

“The boys were in a battle and came out bowling very well,” Nordeen said. “While the girls started off slow, but started to click more in the Baker game. The girls continue to battle and grow as a team and in their bowling skills.”

Red Oak boys were led by Piper, who bowled a 464 series, placing him third individually. 

Berkey finished with a 449 series to place sixth individually. 

Red Oak series: 31- Jarrett 308; 32- Sperling 302; 39- McCunn 254; 40- Gettler 232.

Kiley Riibe led the girls team with a high series of 315 and game of 186 to finish in 15th place.

Red Oak series: 30- Wagaman 263; 36- Williams 227; 39- Johnson 214; 41- Ashley Wilkins 193; 42- Claire Eitzen 182.
