RO Tiger boys win home meet

The Red Oak bowling teams split with Tri-Center in the season opener as the Tiger girls fell and the Tiger boys picked up the win.

Red Oak boys finished with 2,307 pins, while Tri-Center totaled 2,147.

“The boys had three bowlers with no varsity experience, but were able to battle all night,” Red Oak head bowling coach Michael Nordeen said. “With a 40-pin lead going into the Baker games, and a 68-pin lead after Baker game one, we were on our way to a victory.”

Tri-Center came out in the second baker game and pulled to within 11 pins, “but Jon Piper and Kyle Berkey took over as senior leaders and rallied the team to outscore Tri-Center to take the win,” Nordeen said.

Piper led the Tigers with games of 207 and 204, to post a 411 series. Red Oak’s Baker score was 764.

Tigers boys totals: Berkey 331, Jonah Wemhoff 299, Weston Gettler 252, Hunter Jarrett 250, and Luke Sperling 221.

Tri-Center’s Grant Way had the hig game and series with a 233 and 421, respectively.

“The girls had only one bowler with varsity experience, but came out fighting,” Nordeen said. “They battled during the individual games, only trailing by 65 pins. Baker games is a new type of bowling for the girls, and it took a little time to get used to the process. They were able to keep the Baker game total closer, but were unable to come away with the win.”Ashley Wilkins of Red Oak finished with the high series of 292 and high game of 154.
