State wrestling update: Day 2

Red Oak wrestlers competed in Class 2A quarter finals and second round consolation matches this morning at the Wells. Two Tigers are still in contention and will wrestle again tonight at 7:30 p.m. This morning’s results are as follows:
Johnathon Erp lost by decision (9-8) to Ben Schmitz (41-5) of Kuemper Catholic in a second round consolation match and ended his prep career as a three time state qualifier.
Justin McCunn fell in the quarter final match to Matthew Doyle (43-6) of Independence. He defeated Carson Johnson (47-4) of Gilbert by decision (5-1) and continue on tonight in a third-round consolation match with Carson Babcock (41-2) of NH/TV.
Bruce Lukehart lost by decision (6-2) to Caleb Swalla (37-1) of VanMeter/Earlham in the second-round consolation and ended his prep career as a state qualifier.
Carter Maynes defeated Zavion McMurran (37-9) of Estherville-Lincoln Central by fall (1:21) and will compete in the third-round consolation match tonight with Cole Lewis (35-8) of Algona.
