Students selected for All-Iowa Honor Band

Each year the Iowa Bandmasters Association sponsors the All-Iowa Eighth Grade Honor Band.

 Membership in this state-wide honor band is selected from the Eighth Grade Honor Bands of the six regional districts in IBA. Each district selects 22 students in a balanced instrumentation to represent their district at the All-Iowa Middle School Honor Band.  
This honor band rehearses and performs at the Iowa Bandmasters Association Annual Conference held each May at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Des Moines. A noted composer of middle school band music is commissioned to write a composition for the band each year, and then premieres that work as the guest conductor for the All-Iowa Middle School Honor Band. Guest Composter/ Conductor for the 23rd Annual All-Iowa Eighth Grade Honor Band will be Larry Clark.
Representing SWIBA and Red Oak Middle School in the 2011 All-Iowa Eighth Grade Honor Band are Grace Blomstedt, trumpet, daughter of John and Deb Blomstedt, and Kate Walker, percussion, daughter of John and Kathy Walker.  The concert is at 1 p.m. on May 12, 2011, at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Des Moines.
