SWV sweeps triangular, falls to Bedford

 CLARINDA — The Southwest Valley Timberwolves volleyball team swept its triangular Thursday in Clarinda, defeating both Mount Ayr and Clarinda.

They overcame a close game one loss to defeat Mount Ayr 2-1. The Raiderettes took the first game 26-24.

Southwest Valley won a close game two 25-22 and then easily took the deciding third game 15-6.

Marie Palmer had nine kills, with six digs and a block to lead the way for the Timberwolves.

Jade Petersen had six kills, while Kelsey Means finished with three and Lexi Bronner recorded two.

Taylor Damewood had 19 assists, while Bronner and Kim Hults recorded eight digs.

The score against Clarinda was also 2-1. The Cardinals took the first game 25-17. Southwest Valley recovered though and won games two and three 25-19 and 15-10.

Palmer had 11 kills with six digs in the Clarinda win.

Bronner had four kills with seven digs, while Petersen had three kills. Danica Sunderman had the other kill in the win.

Damewood had 15 assists, while Hults recorded nine digs.

Bedford 3, Southwest Valley 1

The Timberwolves lost their first Pride of Iowa match of the season when they fell to Bedford last Tuesday.

The Bulldogs took the first two games 25-19 and 25-18. Not content with going away quietly, Southwest Valley took the third game 25-20. Bedford prevented a fifth game from happening as they defeated Southwest Valley 25-17.

Palmer had 14 kills for the Timberwolves, along with 8 digs and 14-for-16 in serves with three aces.

Petersen and Bronner each had seven kills, while Sunderman finished with three.

Damewood led in assists with 32. Hults had 13 digs and Bronner recorded nine.

The Pride of Iowa tournament kicked off Monday. Results weren’t available as of press time. The tournament will continue Tuesday.

Thursday night, Southwest Valley closes out the regular season with a triangular against Thomas Jefferson and Shenandoah starting at 5:30 p.m.
