T’Wolves get first win at home tourney

CORNING — The Southwest Valley softball team scored its first win of the season during its home tournament Saturday in Corning.

The Timberwolves got the win by defeating CAM 9-2 in six innings.

Southwest Valley fell behind 2-0 after one inning, but rallied back thanks to five runs in the fourth inning. Kylie McBride went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

Danica Sunderman was 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI.

Kim Hults went 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Lexi Bronner was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

The game Saturday was the only one Southwest Valley was able to complete.

The Timberwolves lost 12-0 to I-35 on Friday, 4-3 to Lenox on Thursday and 10-7 to Mount Ayr, last Tuesday.

Baseball

The Timberwolves baseball team scored its lone win of the week last Tuesday when they defeated Mount Ayr 2-1.

Southwest Valley entered the seventh inning trailing 1-0. They fought off many final strike opportunities to keep the game alive, setting up a Nick Frederick game-winning hit that scored both Ryan Allison and Lane Peterson.

Frederick was 2-for-3 in the game.

Bryan Pearson got the win for Southwest Valley as he tossed a complete game, allowing one run on two hits and striking out a career-high 17.

Southwest Valley lost its other two games for the week, falling 6-2 to I-35 on Friday and 15-2 to Lenox on Thursday.

Southwest Valley returns to action Tuesday night when they go to Greenfield to play Nodaway Valley.
