Tigers drop pair to Denison
The Denison girls softball took a pair of Hawkeye 10 Conference wins from Red Oak on Thursday 10-0 and 7-6.
In game one, Denison pitcher Samantha Claussen held the Tigers to just two hits and struck out five in a 10-0 victory. Jami Redel and Rachel Jennings each recorded a hit for Red Oak.
Redel started the game in the circle and surrendered eight hits and six earned runs to record the loss.
The Tigers’ offense came alive in game two with nine hits, led by Andi VanScoy, Gabi French and Paige Stoaks each recorded two hits. VanScoy also had two RBIs.
Lexi Holmgren started game two and allowed six earned runs and 13 hits in a complete game loss.

Elk Horn-Kimballton 1
Red Oak pounded out eight hits and Jami Redel didn’t allow an earned run in a 5-1 girls softball victory over Elk Horn Kimballton on Wednesday.
Shannon Dumler was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and Gabi French was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Tigers’ offense.
Redel struck out five and allowed to scattered four hits in the win.

Essex 5
Lexi Holmgren hit her first home run of the season and struck out 12 for the Red Oak girls softball team in a 9-5 win over Essex on Wednesday.
Holmgren drove in three runs, scored twice and allowed five hits and five earned runs in the win.
Jami Redel was 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs.

Fremont-Mills 2
The Red Oak softball team took advantage of eight Fremont-Mills errors in a 4-2 victory last Tuesday.
The Tigers, who committed six errors of their own, used three run fourth inning to pull away from the Knights.
“We’ve played a lot like that this season too - sometimes we make an awesome play and other times we can’t make the routine play,” said Tiger coach Denis Redel. “We got a lot of young kids and we’ll keep getting better. The difference was today if we made an error we did a better job of regrouping and coming back and making plays. We did some nice things.”
The Tigers finished with six hits. Lexie Holmgren was 2-for-2 with a pair of doubles and an RBI. Rachel Jennings, Jami Redel, Shelby Ayres and Gabi French each added a hit.
“We worked a lot on being on time with her and waiting on pitches,” said Redel. “With a faster pitcher timing is important. We actually thought we could have hit her better than we did. Her curve ball was sort of breaking in and we haven’t seen that this year yet so we weren’t quite ready for it.”
Redel pitched seven strong innings, allowing four hits and striking out three while no allowing an earned run.
“She did a good job of mixing pitches and not letting them get a feel for her,” said Redel. “She pitched pretty well and kept the ball in play.”
