Villisca loses to EM, gets wins over FM and Academy

MALVERN—The Villisca Blue Jays baseball team lost Friday night to the East Mills Wolverines, 16-10, in Corner Conference action.

Villisca jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first inning. Their lead didn’t last long as East Mills scored a combined eight runs in the second and third inning to tie the game.

Villisca took the lead once more in the top of the fifth, but the Wolverines responded in the next half inning, as well as the sixth, scoring seven runs total.

East Mills had big production out of several players Friday night. Luke Schafer, the lead-off centerfielder, was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs  scored and a run batted in. Austin Sommerla was 4-for-5 with a run scored.

Each hitter in the Wolverines line-up finished with at least two hits in the game.

Last Thursday, Villisca picked up a big win against the Fremont-Mills Knights. 12-9. Villisca trailed early 4-0, but were able to come back and take the lead from there.

Last Tuesday, Villisca got their other win of the week against the Clarinda Academy Golden Eagles, 16-6.

On Saturday, they lost to Ogden, 20-6 and Griswold 10-0 as part of the Griswold Tournament.

They’re home Tuesday night to play the Nishnabotna Blue Devils. They’ll also be home Thursday to face Essex/South Page.
