Viqueens beat SW Valley, lose to Fremont-Mills
Stanton cruised to a 3-0 win last week over Southwest Valley, winning the match in straight sets.
Playing in Corning, Stanton needed extra points to win the first set 28-26 before picking up a 25-11 win in the second. Stanton completed the sweep with a 25-17 win in the third set.
Chelsea Weis led Stanton with eight kills and nine digs while also successfully serving on 19 of 20 attempts, including one ace. Ally Focht also had a solid game all around with a team high 14 assists, six digs, three blocks, three aces and a couple kills. Jody Vanderholm was a force at the net with a team-high seven blocks.
Senior Taylor Damewood led the Timberwolves with 21 assists and three serving aces. Danica Sunderman recorded a team-high seven kills while freshman Morgan Shuey posted eight digs.
At Tabor
Tuesday night, Stanton lost a close 3-2 match to Fremont-Mills.
Fremont-Mills won the first set 25-21, but Stanton bounced back to win the second 25-18. After Fremont-Mills rallied to win the third set 25-21, Stanton answered again with a tough 25-23 win to force a fifth and deciding set. Fremont-Mills pulled away though to win 15-9 and take the match.
It was another big night for Focht as she led the Viqueens with 23 assists and a 96 percent serving percentage, adding 13 kills and 13 digs.
Weis also played well with a team best 25 kills and 13 digs. Devin Druivenga posted a team-best 15 digs in the loss.
Stanton (13-9, 3-1 in conference) is back in action this week Tuesday as they travel to Essex and Thursday at Malvern against East Mills.
