Viqueens finish second at Red Oak’s Lady Tigers meet

RED OAK—The Stanton Viqueens track and field team finished second at Red Oak High School’s Lady Tiger Relays Thursday night.
Stanton was second out of seven teams competing in Class A, finishing with a score of 90 points.

Carmen Subbert and Paige Peterson provided the highlights for the meet with their top finishes. Subbert won an individual title in the 100-meter hurdles, with a time of 16.87 seconds.

Peterson meanwhile had two second place finishes, doing so in the 400-meter hurdles and the long jump. The senior finished behind Griswold’s Rebekah Topham in the hurdles, and in the long jump, behind Morganne Haer of Villisca.

Both Subbert and Peterson were part of the shuttle hurdle team that won during the meet. The Stanton team, which also featured Dana Stephens and Macy Elwood, ran a time of 1:14.02, putting them ahead of Griswold and Essex. Subbert also competed in the discus throw, finishing fifth with a throw of 82’8”.

Other individual finishers for the meet include Kara Allen in the high jump, who jumped 4’6” to take third and Carol Marcel, who ran 7:11.41, to take sixth in the 1,500-meter race.

Stanton finished sixth at the Lady Cardinal Relays in Clarinda, last Tuesday, to open up their 2012 track season. The Viqueens finished with a score of 53 points.

The key highlight of the meet for Stanton was their win in the shuttle hurdle relays. Stanton won with a time of 1:13.97, nearly four seconds faster than runner-up Mount Ayr.

Carmen Subbert had the top individual finish for the Viqueens as she was second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.96 seconds. Subbert was edged out for first by Villisca's Lily Berggren. Subbert also took fifth in the discus with a throw of 84'7”.

Kara Allen had a third place finish in the high jump, jumping 4'4”, while Paige Peterson took fourth in the long jump, with a jump of 14'5”. Peterson also had a fifth place finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:14.86, .01 behind Justine Freund of Griswold. Erin DeKay had a fourth place finish for the Viqueens, doing so in the shot put with a throw of 29'4.5”.

Stanton was at Creston’s track meet on Monday, but results weren’t available as of press time.

Their next meet will be Thursday at Shenandoah High School.
