Viqueens split week heading into Corner Tournament

STANTON — The Stanton Viqueens got back on track heading into the Corner Conference girls basketball tournament when they defeated Clarinda Academy 73-20.

Stanton’s win against Clarinda Academy is their first for 2013.
Ragen Anderson led the way with 14 points, while Carmen Subbert finished with 13.

They lost the first two games to open up the 2013 calendar year.

Nishnabotna 65, Stanton 61

Stanton ended up losing its second straight game last Tuesday, doing so against Nishnabotna in Farragut.

The game was tied at halftime, but Nishnabotna pulled out to an eight-point lead at the end of the third quarter. The Viqueens rallied in the fourth quarter, but fell short.

Subbert’s 26 points and 13 rebounds led the way for Stanton.

Subbert was also 9-for-10 at the free throw line.

Anderson finished with 16 points, while Sederberg scored 12 in the Stanton loss.

Stanton began the Corner Conference tournament Monday night when they hosted Sidney in the quarterfinals.

Results weren’t available as of press time.

Should Stanton win, they would play in the semifinals at Villisca High School Wednesday night.

The Viqueens would play the winners of East Mills and Fremont-Mills.
The championship and consolation games will take place Friday night in Malvern.
