Walker, Blomstedt, Bergren picked for Hawkeye 10 team
Three Red Oak players were chosen for the Hawkeye 10 all-conference team, released Monday.
Of those three, only guard Kate Walker was a first team selection as she was a unanimous pick. It’s the second straight year that Walker has been chosen as a unanimous pick.
The other unanimous selections were Jess Schaben (Harlan), Serena Parker (Shenandoah) and Kylie Ferguson (St. Albert).
The rest of the first team list includes Harlan’s Taylor Frederick and Taylor Wagner, Lewis Central’s Paige Beacom and Kuemper Catholic’s Kierstyn Bauer.
Walker had a career-year in scoring for the 2013-14 season, averaging 19 points per game, second most in the conference. In addition, Walker had 137 assists (most in conference) and 164 rebounds.
Grace Blomstedt was the selection for second team all-conference. Blomstedt, a junior center, is joined along with Glenwood’s Bailey Starner and Halie Darrow, Clarinda’s Jenny Bair, Kuemper Catholic’s Maria Dentlinger, Lewis Central’s Kye Madsen and Harlan’s Jordyn Moser.
Blomstedt finished fourth in the Hawkeye 10 in rebounding, grabbing 185 boards. In addition, she was third in the conference in shot blocking with 56 blocks.
Blake Bergren, a senior, was an honorable mention on the list for Red Oak. Bergren played in seven games for Red Oak this season before tearing her ACL during the Jennie Ed Mac Shootout against Bellevue East Dec. 20. She averaged 11.7 points per game in those seven games for the Tigers.
Red Oak finished the 2013-14 season with a 16-8 record overall and 7-3 in conference. The Tigers lost in the 3A regional final Feb. 22 to the eventual state champions, MOC-Floyd Valley.
