Woman arrested, finds husband dead in home
A Red Oak woman came home to find her husband dead after she was released from jail for attacking him.
Kristen Hughes, 45, was arrested May 17 for domestic abuse after assaulting her husband, Matthew Hughes, “by biting and scratching his upper body,” according to the arrest report.
After Hughes’ arrest, a no contact order was given on May 18, with Matthew Hughes listed as the protected party.
Hughes posted bond on May 18 and returned home to find Matthew Hughes dead in their home.
According to Red Oak Chief of Police Drue Powers, the death was ruled a suicide.
Since the death, Montgomery County Attorney Bruce Swanson dismissed the charges against Hughes.
Swanson said there is no case to build against Hughes now that her husband is deceased, so he dropped the charges.
Swanson and Powers both said no further action will be taken and that the investigation is closed.
